Every 5th of June is a day used by the United Nations to stimulate worldwide awareness of environmental issues and encourages political action.
World Environment Day (WED) is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. Over the years it has grown to be a broad, global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated by stakeholders in over 100 countries. It also serves as the ‘people’s day’ for doing something positive for the environment, galvanizing individual actions into a collective power that generates an exponential positive impact on the planet. WED is the opportunity for everyone to realize the responsibility to care for the Earth and to become agents of change.
Join Kitara Foundation in a one-week series of activities to mark the World Environment Day 2023 a benefit to the rural communities of Western Uganda. Activities include
1. Planting trees on schools, churches and individual families targeting to plant one million trees this season,
2. Teaching school children on the importance of environmental conservation/protection and
3. Painting schools with a green environment paints.
When you participate in tree planting activities or planting events, you’ll be playing an essential role in restoring the natural order and creating a healthier place and a healing environment for us all to live.
As we know it, the earth would not be the same without trees and forests. Forests are of significant importance to human and animal life. Apart from being a major source of oxygen, the value extends to providing us with materials. These include medicine, food, and other raw materials.
Tree planting has many benefits. These plants release oxygen into the air and absorb carbon. Apart from beautification, planting trees also contribute to living in a healthy place.
As a volunteer, your contributions would involve preparing the soil and planting during the planting season. Tree care also becomes vital to preserving the new ones that have been planted as well as existing ones.
We invite Volunteers from abroad to come and take part in these activities. Accommodation for volunteers is already set in different host families and in guest house settings. Read about our guest homes at https://kitararcc.com/2023/04/05/biiso-home-for-volunteers-and-community-tourists-in-buliisa-oil-land-of-uganda/ and https://kitararcc.com/2023/04/05/home-of-volunteers-and-community-tourists-in-fort-portal/
On the final day of these activities June 5th, we join the rest of the country to the national celebrations at a place which will be assigned by the government of Uganda.
On June 6th we shall have an evaluation meeting before volunteers travel back to Entebbe to catch up with their flight. Volunteers are encouraged to arrive early and engage in early preparations. One can also plan to stay longer taking part in various activities while watering and watching the planted trees grow.

Plant Your Age Campaign;
Our concept of tree planting is named ‘’Plant your age’’ Campaign; The Plant Your Age campaign seeks to enhance and unify tree growing across the region. There are already numerous tree planting campaigns championed by different players and entities, but they are often time-bound and splintered, which makes it hard to track progress, survival and flourish of planted trees. Plant Your Age doesn’t seek to replace or outshine any of these tree planting ventures. Rather, it seeks to enhance and unify tree growing at individual, corporate and national levels.
How old are you? Now imagine every year you have lived represents a chance to restore hope, inspire a new generation, replenish health and make the world a better place for all. When you plant a tree, you give life to the living and make it worthwhile for you, your family and future generations.
“The Plant your Age Initiative advocates for citizens and visitors to endeavor to plant trees equivalent to their ages and ensure that they grow, where applicable grow to your age.” This serves as an awareness creation opportunity for the populace to prepare to plant and grow trees equivalent to their relevant ages during every rainy season.
Would you be excited to join these environmental conservation volunteer project, would you love to contribute to healing the environment for a healing environment in the world, would you want to plant your age and leave your signature in Uganda, then join the Kitara Foundation Environmental Conservation Program on this World Environment Day.
