Background: All our travels originate from Fort Portal Tourism City, the tourism capital of Uganda. Fort Portal City was elevated to a tourism city in 2020 due to its central location to a number of tourism destinations. Fort Portal enjoys a unique location in the Tourism Capital area of the Rwenzori Region. Its landscape encompasses the snowcapped Rwenzori Mountains, contains the largest body of crater lakes in the world, the western escarpments of the Great Rift Valley, it’s close to the largest home of primates Kibale National Park, its near Semulik National park and close to the home of big cats Queen Elizabeth National Park. In fact, Western Uganda region where Fort Portal lies, holds over 70% of Uganda’s best Nature destinations. Fort Portal also has unique Flora and Fauna, a modified equatorial climate with warm and cold temperatures all year round. The people of Fort Portal –The Batooro and neighboring cultures are the friendliest you can find.

The Hidden Uganda

Fort Portal is more privileged to have been crowned as the only tourism city known in the country, thus most tourists who come to Uganda admire to reach Fort Portal Tourism City. However, most tourism programs are leading to the mainstream tourism destinations such as the National Parks, missing an opportunity to experience life changing community experiences and the best unbeatable community routes. It’s for this reason that Kitara Foundation for Regional Tourism has developed these routes though communities in the region. Adventure experiences here are done by the people and with people, the true meaning of Community Tourism. Our Tourism package aims at benefiting both visitors and people of the communities hosting them. These are cost effective but rewarding tour experiences.

Our Goal is to make Fort Portal and its tourism city phenomenon a unique metropolitan area with a blossoming tourism and hospitality industry holding hundreds of thousands of tourists at any single time from across the world boosting lots of local economies. Fort Portal stands out to be unrivaled as the tourism destination in Uganda which provides huge potential for employment of the young workforce hence increasing the per capita income of the local households.
