The much-anticipated Hikers clubs reunion in Mbarara finally took place, and it was an unforgettable experience. Teams from Fort Portal, Ibanda, Rubirizi, and Kampala converged on Mbarara City, eager to reconnect and create new memories.

The campfire at Katete Beach on Saturday evening was the perfect setting to kick off the reunion. As we roasted local delicacies like bananas and cassava, and shared beers, the camaraderie was palpable. The campfire was situated in front of the breathtaking waterfalls on River Rwizi, providing a picturesque backdrop for photography. The soothing sounds of the river created a serene ambiance, making the experience even more enjoyable.

As teams arrived from their respective destinations, they shared stories of their journeys, and we were relieved to hear that everyone had a safe and enjoyable trip. Hailey, one of the team members, aptly described the experience of traveling with friends on an adventure: “There’s something special about sharing the thrill of discovery with friends.”

The Mbarara Nightlife experience at Shooters Club was truly unforgettable. Our hosts, the Mbarara City Hikers Club, had made an excellent choice. The club’s vibrant atmosphere, coupled with the infectious energy of the participants, made for a night to remember. We danced the night away to local hits like “Kinawolovu,” creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Sunday morning’s meetup at Katete Beach was a refreshing start to the day. A hearty breakfast of katogo (banana mixed with meat) and milk was the perfect fuel for the day’s hike. The briefing and guidelines for the hike were shared, and we set off towards the Karugangama Hills.

The hike was a physical challenge, but the sense of camaraderie and teamwork was inspiring. Hikers supported and encouraged each other, offering cold water and carrying the weaker members when needed. The scenic views of the rolling hills and the cascading valleys made the hike truly worthwhile.

As we reached the summit, the panoramic views of Mbarara Town, parts of Isingiro district, and the distant hills of Northern Tanzania took our breath away. The sense of accomplishment and pride was palpable.

The return journey to Katete Beach for lunch was eagerly anticipated. The delicious meal of banana, posho, rice, and meat was a welcome respite after the hike.

As we said our goodbyes, it was clear that the reunion had created lasting bonds. People who had met as strangers just a day ago were now parting as friends. The experience had been a testament to the power of adventure and camaraderie.

As teams traveled back to their destinations, they continued to share updates and photos in the WhatsApp group, reliving the memories of the weekend.

Even now, participants are still sharing photographs and videos, reliving the moments and updating those who missed the event. This is a testament to the lasting impact of the reunion.
