Meet the Planned Tourist; An African Soul with a Wanderlust Heart!

Ever wondered who “The Planned Tourist” in Africa is? Well, buckle up, because we’re about to introduce you to a truly remarkable Ugandan traveler and nature lover! This isn’t just any tourist; he’s a passionate tourism and hospitality educator, advocate, and promoter, with a special soft spot for Community Based Tourism in Africa. Sabiiti Fenekansi Mbiire is all about making sure tourism benefits local communities and preserves the incredible natural beauty of the continent.

A Tapestry of African Heritage

Sabiiti’s story is as rich and diverse as the African landscape itself! Born in Ankole and raised in Tooro, his roots run deep across East Africa. Imagine a family tree stretching across borders: his paternal ancestors, the Basiita clan, journeyed from Karagwe, Tanzania, to settle in Ankole, Uganda. Meanwhile, his maternal ancestors, from the Beitira clan, made their way from Rwanda to also find a home in Western Uganda’s Ankole region. He’s the son of Mbiire and the grandson of Kabooko, whose lineage hails from Karagwe, Northern Tanzania.

His parents, from these two distinct origins, met and married in Ankole, where he was born. At a young age, his family embarked on another journey, moving from Ankole to settle in Tooro, where he grew into the adult he is today.

This incredible background gifted him a kaleidoscope of cultures! He’s been immersed in the Wanyambo culture from Tanzania, the vibrant traditions from Rwanda, the unique ways of the Kinyankole people, and the distinct customs of Tooro. Talk about a cultural melting pot!

For a while, he admits, he was playfully perplexed. Was he Tanzanian by origin, Rwandan by ancestry, Munyankole by birth, or Mutooro by upbringing? But through it all, one powerful truth became crystal clear: he is unequivocally African. Being an African isn’t just a label for him; it’s the very core of his being, the compass that guides his journey.

Adventure is His Birthright

It’s no surprise then that his deep love for tourism and travel was shaped by this extraordinary heritage. He truly is “The Planned Tourist” in Africa, and he firmly believes adventure is his birthright! He wasn’t just born; he was born a traveler and an adventurer, with an insatiable curiosity for discovery. He’s drawn to unlocking the secrets of nature, connecting with diverse people, and delving into the fascinating realms of nature, cultural and religious explorations.

Driven by this passion, he founded the Kitara Foundation for Regional Tourism. This isn’t just an organization; it’s the vehicle for his grand tourism journey, a living record of history, and a testament to his vision. And when he talks about “Kitara,” he’s not just referring to Western Uganda. For him, Kitara encompasses a wider section of Africa, honoring the original, expansive historical Kitara area.

The Planned Tourist is a tireless champion for Sustainable, Responsible, Green, Eco, Regenerative, and Community Based Tourism across the region. He’s dedicated to ensuring that every step of a tourist’s journey contributes positively to the environment and the communities they visit.

So, next time you hear about “The Planned Tourist,” you’ll know you’re hearing about an incredible individual whose very identity is woven into the rich tapestry of Africa, inspiring responsible exploration and a love for this magnificent continent!

The yearning for a borderless Africa resonates deeply within his African heart. It speaks to a fundamental truth: he believes the arbitrary lines drawn by colonial powers have fractured a shared heritage, dividing communities with intertwined histories, cultures, and identities. https://kitararcc.com/2025/04/23/africa-without-borders-for-diversity-peace-and-transformation/
